6043409c31 view_builder: register view on all shards atomically
When the view builder starts to build a new view, each shard registers
itself by writing the shard id and current token to the
scylla_views_builds_in_progress table.

Previously, this happened independently by each shard. We change it now
to register all shards "atomically" - when a shard registers itself, it
also registers all other shards with an empty status, if they aren't
registered yet. This ensures that we don't have a partial state in the
table where only some of the shards are registered, but we always have a
status for all shards.

The reason we want to register all shards atomically is that if it
happens that only some of the shards were registered, then we restart
and load the status from table, this doesn't work well for multiple
reasons.

One example is that to know how many shards we had previously, we take
the maximum shard id we see in the table. If it's different than the
current shard count, we will execute the reshard code. But of course, if
the last shard is missing from the table because it didn't register
itself, this calculation will be wrong, and we can't know the previous
number of shards.

This is a problem because suppose we have two shards, and shard 0
finished building the view but shard 1 didn't start. When we come up, we
will think that previously we had only a single shard and it completed
building everything, when in fact we built only half the view
approximately. The problem is that we don't have enough information in
the tables to know that.

There are additional problems related to reshard. In the reshard
function, whether it is executed because we actually do node reshard or
because we calculated the wrong number of previous shards, if the status
of some shard is missing then the calculation of new ranges will be
wrong. When some shard didn't make progress we should start building the
view from scratch. However, this doesn't happen if we don't have a
status for the shard, because the code looks only for shards that have a
status. In effect, this shard is considered complete even though it
didn't start. This could cause the view building to get stuck or
complete without building all tokens ranges.

By registering all shards atomically, this should solve the above
problems because we will always have statuses for all shards.

233f4dcee3 db/view/view_building_worker: register staging sstable to view building coordinator when needed
Change return type of `check_needs_view_update_path()`. Instead of
retrning bool which tells whether to use staging directory (and register
to `view_update_generator`) or use normal directory.

Now the function returns enum with possible values:
- `normal_directory` - use normal directory for the sstable
- `staging_directly_to_generator` - use staging directory and register
      to `view_update_generator`
- `staging_managed_by_vbc` - use staging directory but don't register it
to `view_update_generator` but create view building tasks for
      later

The third option is new, it's used when the table has any view which is
in building process currrently. In this case, registering it to `view_update_generator`
prematurely may lead to base-view inconsistency
(for example when a replica is in a pending state).

3feb759943 everywhere: use utils::chunked_vector for list of mutations
Currently, we use std::vector<*mutation> to keep
a list of mutations for processing.
This can lead to large allocation, e.g. when the vector
size is a function of the number of tables.

Use a chunked vector instead to prevent oversized allocations.

ee36358a60 db: remove unused includes
these unused includes are identified by clang-include-cleaner.
after auditing the source files, all of the reports have been
confirmed.

please note, since we have `using seastar::shared_ptr` in
`seastarx.h`, this renders `#include <seastar/core/shared_ptr.hh>`
unnecessary if we don't need the full definition of `seastar::shared_ptr`.

so, in this change, all the unused includes are removed. but there are
some headers which are actually used, while still being identified by
this tool. these includes are marked with "IWYU pragma: keep".

78d6ff6598 view: make old view_build_status table a virtual table
After migrating the view build status from
system_distributed.view_build_status to system.view_build_status_v2, we
set system_distributed.view_build_status to be a virtual table, such
that reading from it is actually reading from the underlying new table.

The reason for this is that we want to keep compatibility with the old
table, since it exists also in Cassandra and it is used by various external
tools to check the view build status. Making the table virtual makes the
transition transparent for external users.

The two tables are in different keyspaces and have different shard
mapping. The v1 table is a distributed table with a normal shard
mapping, and the v2 table is a local table using the null sharder. The
virtual reader works by constructing a multishard reader which reads the rows
from shard zero, and then filtering it to get only the rows owned by the
current shard.

8d25a4d678 view_builder: migration to v2
Migrate view_builder to v2, to store the view build status of all nodes
in the group0 based table view_build_status_v2.

Introduce a feature view_build_status_on_group0 so we know when all
nodes are ready to migrate and use the new table.

A new cluster is initialized to use v2. Otherwise, The topology coordinator
initiates the migration when the feature is enabled, if it was not done
already.

The migration reads all the rows in the v1 table and writes it via
group0 to the v2 table, together with a mutation that updates the
view_builder parameter in scylla_local to v2. When this mutation is
applied, it updates the view_builder service to start using the v2
table.

fdc1449392 treewide: rename flat_mutation_reader_v2 to mutation_reader
flat_mutation_reader_v2 was introduced in a pair of commits in 2021:

e3309322c3 "Clone flat_mutation_reader related classes into v2 variants"
08b5773c12 "Adapt flat_mutation_reader_v2 to the new version of the API"

as a replacement for flat_mutation_reader, using range_tombstone_change
instead of range_tombstone to represent represent range tombstones. See
those commits for more information.

The transition was incremental; the last use of the original
flat_mutation_reader was removed in 2022 in commit

026f8cc1e7 "db: Use mutation_partition_v2 in mvcc"

In turn, flat_mutation_reader was introduced in 2017 in commit

  748205ca75 "Introduce flat_mutation_reader"

To transition from a mutation_reader that nested rows within
a partition in a separate stream, to a flat reader that streamed
partitions and rows in the same stream.

Here, we reclaim the original name and rename the awkward
flat_mutation_reader_v2 to mutation_reader.

Note that mutation_fragment_v2 remains since we still use the original
for compatibilty, sometimes.

Some notes about the transition:

 - files were also renamed. In one case (flat_mutation_reader_test.cc), the
rename target already existed, so we rename to
    mutation_reader_another_test.cc.

 - a namespace 'mutation_reader' with two definitions existed (in
mutation_reader_fwd.hh). Its contents was folded into the mutation_reader
class. As a result, a few #includes had to be adjusted.

in particular from table_schema_version.

fcb8d040e8 treewide: use Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) license identifiers
Instead of lengthy blurbs, switch to single-line, machine-readable
standardized (https://spdx.dev) license identifiers. The Linux kernel
switched long ago, so there is strong precedent.

Three cases are handled: AGPL-only, Apache-only, and dual licensed.
For the latter case, I chose (AGPL-3.0-or-later and Apache-2.0),
reasoning that our changes are extensive enough to apply our license.

The changes we applied mechanically with a script, except to
licenses/README.md.

bbad8f4677 replica: move ::database, ::keyspace, and ::table to replica namespace
Move replica-oriented classes to the replica namespace. The main
classes moved are ::database, ::keyspace, and ::table, but a few
ancillary classes are also moved. There are certainly classes that
should be moved but aren't (like distributed_loader) but we have
to start somewhere.

References are adjusted treewide. In many cases, it is obvious that
a call site should not access the replica (but the data_dictionary
instead), but that is left for separate work.

scylla-gdb.py is adjusted to look for both the new and old names.

ae3a360725 database: Move database, keyspace, table classes to replica/ directory
The database, keyspace, and table classes represent the replica-only
part of the objects after which they are named. Reading from a table
doesn't give you the full data, just the replica's view, and it is not
consistent since reconciliation is applied on the coordinator.

As a first step in acknowledging this, move the related files to
a replica/ subdirectory.

c504361c15 view_builder: Accept view_build_statuses
The code itself is already in relevant .cc file, not move it to the
relevant class.

The only significant change is where to get token metadata from.
In its old location tokens were provided by the storage service
itself, now when it's in the view builder there's no "native" place
to get them from, however the rest of the view building code gets
tokens from global storage proxy, so do the same here.

115d6d8d4c system_keyspace: prepare forward-declared members
In anticipation of making system_keyspace a class instead of a
namespace, rename any member that is currently forward-declared,
since one can't forward-declare a class member. Each member
is taken out of the system_keyspace namespace and gains a
system_keyspace prefix. Aliases are added to reduce code churn.

The result isn't lovely, but can be adjusted later.

5d7c765422 db,view: split stopping view builder to drain+stop
In order to be able to avoid a deadlock when CQL server cannot be started,
the view builder shutdown procedure is now split to two parts -
- drain and stop. Drain is performed before storage proxy shutdown,
but stop() will be called even before drain is scheduled.
The deadlock is as follows:
 - view builder creates a reader permit in order to be able
   to read from system tables
 - CQL server fails to start, shutdown procedure begins
 - view builder stop() is not called (because it was not scheduled
yet), so it holds onto its reader permit
 - database shutdown procedure waits for all permits to be destroyed,
and it hangs indefinitely because view builder keeps holding
   its permit.

64a4e5e059 cross-tree: reduce dependency on db/config.hh and database.hh
Every time db/config.hh is modified (e.g., to add a new configuration
option), 110 source files need to be recompiled. Many of those 110 didn't
really care about configuration options, and just got the dependency
accidentally by including some other header file.

In this patch, I remove the include of "db/config.hh" from all header
files. It is only needed in source files - and header files only
need forward declarations. In some cases, source files were missing
certain includes which they got incidentally from db/config.hh, so I
had to add these includes explicitly.

After this patch, the number of source files that get recompiled after a
change to db/config.hh goes down from 110 to 45.
It also means that 65 source files now compile faster because they don't
include db/config.hh and whatever it included.

Additionally, this patch also eliminates a few unnecessary inclusions
of database.hh in other header files, which can use a forward declaration
or database_fwd.hh. Some of the source files including one of those
header files relied on one of the many header files brought in by
database.hh, so we need to include those explicitly.
In view_update_generator.hh something interesting happened - it *needs*
database.hh because of code in the header file, but only included
database_fwd.hh, and the only reason this worked was that the files
including view_update_generator.hh already happened to unnecessarily
include database.hh. So we fix that too.

need it gain the include, but they are few.

f802356572 Revert "Revert "Merge "raft: fix replication if existing log on leader" from Gleb""
This reverts commit dc77d128e9. It was reverted
due to a strange and unexplained diff, which is now explained. The
HEAD on the working directory being pulled from was set back, so git
thought it was merging the intended commits, plus all the work that was
committed from HEAD to master. So it is safe to restore it.

40d8bfa394 sstables: move sstable reader creation functions to sstable_set
Lower level functions such as `create_single_key_sstable_reader`
were made methods of `sstable_set`.

The motivation is that each concrete sstable_set
may decide to use a better sstable reading algorithm specific to the
data structures used by this sstable_set. For this it needs to access
the set's internals.

A nice side effect is that we moved some code out of table.cc
and database.hh which are huge files.

77c7d94f85 view_builder: Split calculate_shard_build_step into two
The calculate_shard_build_step() has a cross-shard barrier in the middle and
passing the barrier is broken wrt exceptions that may happen before it. The
intention is to prepare this barrier passing for exception handling by turning
the view_builder::start() into a dedicated continuation lambda.

Step one in this campaign -- split the calculate_shard_build_step() into
steps called by view_builder::start():

 - before the barrier
 - barrier
 - after the barrier
