06dd3b2e64 install-dependencies.sh: add zlib
Scylla uses zlib, through the header <zlib.h>, in sstable compression.
We also want to use it in Alternator for gzip-compressed requests.

We never actually required zlib explicltly in install-dependencies.sh,
we only get it through transitive dependencies. But it's better to
require it explicitly so this is what we do in this patch.

In Fedora, we use the newer, more efficient, zlib-ng which is API-
compatible with the classic zlib. Unfortunately, the Debian zlib-ng
package is *not* drop-in compatible with zlib (you need to include
a different header file <zlib-ng.h>) so we use the classic zlib.

eb5e9f728c build: lock cxxbridge-cmd version to the rest of the cxx packages
rust/Cargo.toml locks the cxx packages to version 1.0.83,
but install-dependencies.sh does not lock cxxbridge-cmd, part
of that ecosystem. Since cxx 1.0.189 broke compatibility with
1.0.83 (understandable, as these are all sub-packages of a single
repository), builds with newer cxxbridge-cmd are broken.

Fix by locking cxxbridge-cmd to the same version as the other
cxx subpackages.

    https://devpkg.scylladb.com/clang/clang-20.1.8-Fedora-42-x86_64.tar.gz

Probably better done by building cxxbridge-cmd during the build
itself, but that is a deeper change.

d921a565de Add open-coredump script depndencies to install-dependencies.sh
Whilst the coredump script checks for prerequisites, the user
experience is not ideal because you either have to go in the
script and get the list of deps and install them or wait for
the script to complain about lacking dependencies one by one.
This commit completes the list of dependencies in the
install script (some of them were already there for Fedora),
so you already have them installed by the time you
get to run the coredump script.

2d2a2ef277 tools: toolchain: dbuild: support nested containers
Pass through the local containers directory (it cannot
be bind-mounted to /var/lib/containers since podman checks
the path hasn't changed) with overrides to the paths. This
allows containers to be created inside the dbuild container,
so we can enlist pre-packaged software (such as opensearch)
in test.py. If the container images are already downloaded
in the host, they won't be downloaded again.

It turns out that the container ecosystem doesn't support
nested network namespaces well, so we configure the outer
container to use host networking for the inner containers.
It's useful anyway.

The frozen toolchain now installs podman and buildah so
there's something to actually drive those nested containers.
We disable weak dnf dependencies to avoid installing qemu.

b374f94b15 pip installation: use --no-cache-dir
There are two reasons we may want NOT to use caching of pip deps:
1. When building a container, unless we specifically clean it up, it'll remain, even when we squash the image layers later.
2. When building a container, that cache is not useful, as we squash our containers later (so that layer is not cached really). And our CI cleans up the layers repo anyway.
3. Caching sometimes isn't great, and doesn't ensure we pick up the exact version (or latest) that we wish to...

This PR changes two locations in Scylla, both of which (also) build containers, so certainly relevant for 1, 2 above and possibly 3.
No real need to backport.

9d49c3254f install-dependencies.sh: disabiguate python magic package
There are in fact two python magic packages, file-magic (that binds
to libmagic and comes from the file package), magic, an independent
one. The name we use in install-depedencies.sh, python3-magic,
resolves to file-magic.

In Fedora 42, the resolution from the name python3-magic to
file-magic was removed [1], and so install-dependencies.sh now tries
to install the wrong magic package, which turns out not to coexist
with the one we want anyway.

Fix by naming python3-file-magic directly instead. Since this is what's
installed in the current frozen toolchain, there's no need to
regenerate it; we're just making the package list work in Fedora 42.

58d4d8142a install-dependencies.sh: harden pip_packages against shellcheck
pip_packages is an associative array, which in bash is constructed
as ([key]=value...). In our case the value is often empty (indicating
no version constraint). Shellcheck warns against it, since `[key]= x`
could be a mistype of `[key]=x`. It's not in our case, but shellcheck
doesn't know that.

Make shellcheck happier by specifying the empty values explicitly.

cf72c31617 treewide: improve bash error reporting
bash error handling and reporting is atrocious. Without -e it will
just ignore errors. With -e it will stop on errors, but not report
where the error happened (apart from exiting itself with an error code).

Improve that with the `trap ERR` command. Note that this won't be invoked
on intentional error exit with `exit 1`.

We apply this on every bash script that contains -e or that it appears
trivial to set it in. Non-trivial scripts without -e are left unmodified,
since they might intentionally invoke failing scripts.

Before this change, we didn't quote the array of the keys of an

                   ^-----------------^ SC2068 (error): Double quote array expansions to avoid re-splitting elements.

```
While the current keys in the associative array do not contain spaces,
quoting array expansions is a recommended defensive programming practice.
This change:
- Prevents potential future issues with unexpected whitespace
- Silences Shellcheck warning without changing functionality
- Improves code quality and maintainability
Specifically modified the array iteration from:
This change has no functional impact and serves as a proactive code improvement.
6eda41f305 install-dependencies.sh: define local variable using "local -A"
"declare -A local GO_ARCH" does not define a single variable, instead
it defines two variables named "local" and "GO_ARCH". shellcheck
               ^---^ SC2034 (warning): local appears unused. Verify use (or export if used externally).
```

and per the output of "help declare":

```
declare: declare [-aAfFgiIlnrtux] [name[=value] ...] or declare -p [-aAfFilnrtux] [name ...]
```
we defined two associative arrays instead of one.

In this change, we use the correct Bash syntax `local -A GO_ARCH` to:
- Create a single, locally-scoped associative array
- Eliminate static analysis warnings
- Improve code readability and maintainability

This is a cleanup change with no production impact.

Previously optimized clang installation was not used standard build
script, it overwrites preinstalled Fedora's clang binaries instead.
However this breaks on clang-18.1.8, since libLTO versioning convention.
To avoid such problem, let's switch to standard installation method and
swith install prefix to /usr/local.

a4c6ae688a install-dependencies.sh: set file mode creation mask to 0022
The docs [1] clearly say "install-dependencies.sh" should be run as
"root"; however, the script silently assumes that the umask inherited from
the calling environment is 0022. That's not necessarily the case, and
there's an argument to be made for "root" setting umask 0077 by default.
The script behaves unexpectedly under such circumstances; files and
directories it creates under /opt and /usr/local are then not accessible
to unprivileged users, leading to compilation failures later on.

Set the creation mask explicitly to 0022.

ad649be1bf treewide: drop thrift support
thrift support was deprecated since ScyllaDB 5.2

> Thrift API - legacy ScyllaDB (and Apache Cassandra) API is
> deprecated and will be removed in followup release. Thrift has
> been disabled by default.

so let's drop it. in this change,

* thrift protocol support is dropped
* all references to thrift support in document are dropped
* the "thrift_version" column in system.local table is
  preserved for backward compatibility, as we could load
  from an existing system.local table which still contains
  this clolumn, so we need to write this column as well.
* "/storage_service/rpc_server" is only preserved for
  backward compatibility with java-based nodetool.
* `rpc_port` and `start_rpc` options are preserved, but
  they are marked as "Unused". so that the new release
  of scylladb can consume existing scylla.yaml configurations
  which might contain these settings. by making them
  deprecated, user will be able get warned, and update
  their configurations before we actually remove them
  in the next major release.

0b0e661a85 build: bring abseil submodule back
because of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2278689,
the rebuilt abseil package provided by fedora has different settings
than the ones if the tree is built with the sanitizer enabled. this
inconsistency leads to a crash.

to address this problem, we have to reinstate the abseil submodule, so
we can built it with the same compiler options with which we build the
tree.

in this change

* Revert "build: drop abseil submodule, replace with distribution abseil"
* update CMake building system with abseil header include settings
* bump up the abseil submodule to the latest LTS branch of abseil:
  lts_2024_01_16
* update scylla-gdb.py to adapt to the new structure of
  flat_hash_map

835742af6d install-dependencies: install cargo and wabt for debian
cargo is used for installing cxxbridge-cmd, which is in turn used
when building the cxx bindings for the rust modules. so we need it
on all distros.

in this change, we add cargo for debian. so that we don't have
build failure like:

```
CMake Error at rust/CMakeLists.txt:32 (find_program):
  Could not find CXXBRIDGE using the following names: cxxbridge
```

for similar reason, we also need wabt, which provides wasm2wat,
without which, we'd have

```
a70a288627 install-dependencies.sh: add libxxhash-dev for debian
libxxhash is used for building on both fedora and debian. `xxhash-devel`
is already listed in `fedora_packages`, we should have its counterpart
in `debian_base_packages`. otherwise the build on debian and its
derivatives could fail like
```
CMake Error at /usr/local/share/cmake-3.29/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:230 (message):
  Could NOT find xxHash (missing: xxhash_LIBRARY xxhash_INCLUDE_DIR) (found
  version "")

  cmake/FindxxHash.cmake:30 (find_package_handle_standard_args)
  CMakeLists.txt:75 (find_package)
```
if we are using CMake to generate the building system. if we use
`configure.py` to generate `build.ninja`, the build would fails at
build time.
f0d6330204 build: add crypto++ to dependencies
We depend on the crypto++ library (see utils/hashers.hh) but don't list
it in install-dependencies.sh. Currently this works because Seastar's
install-dependencies.sh installs it, but that's going away in [1]. List
crypto++ directly to keep install-dependencies.sh working.
Regenerating the frozen toolchain is unnecessary since we're re-adding
an existing dependency.
befd910a06 install-dependencies.sh : Add packages for supporting code coverage
As part of code coverage we need some additional packages in order to
being able to process the code coverage data and being able to provide
some meaningful information in logs.
Here we add the following packages:
fedora packages:
----------------
lcov - A package of utilities to manipulate lcov traces and generate
       coverage html reports
fedora python3 packages:
------------------------
The following packages are added into fedora_packages and not the
python3_packages since we don't need them to be packaged into
scylla-python3 package but we only require them for the build
environment.
python3-unidiff - A python library for working with patch files, this is
                  required in order to generate "patch coverage" reports.
python3-humanfriendly - A python library to format some quantities into
                        a human readable strings (time spans, sizes, etc...)
                        we use it to print meaningful logs that tracks
                        the volume and time it takes to process coverage
                        data so we can better debug and optimize it in the
                        future.
python3-jinja3 - This is a template based generator that will eventually
                 will allow to consolidate and rearrange several reports into one so we
                 can publish a single report "site" for all of the coverage information.
                 For example, include both, coverage report as well as
                 patch report in a tab based site.
pip packages:
-------------
treelib - A tree data structure that supports also pretty printing of
          the tree data. We use it to log the coverage processing steps in
          order to have debugging capabilities in the future.
d1aaca893c install-dependencies.sh: Complete the pip install logic
install-dependencies.sh includes a list of pip packages that the build
This functionality was added in
into the logic.
This change complete the transition to pip-packages list.
It includes also modifying the `pip_packages` array to include a
11d7cadf0d install-dependencies.sh: drop java deps
the java related build dependencies are installed by
* tools/java/install-dependencies.sh
* tools/jmx/install-dependencies.sh
respectively. and the parent `install-dependencies.sh` always
invoke these scripts, so there is no need to repeat them in the
parent `install-dependenceies.sh` anymore.
in addition to dedup the build deps, this change also helps to
reduce the size of build dependencies. as by default, `dnf`
install the weak deps, unless `-setopt=install_weak_deps=False`
is passed to it, so this change also helps to reduce the traffic
and foot print of the installed packages for building scylla.
58d94a54a3 scylla_raid_setup: faillback to other paths when UUID not avialable
On some environment such as VMware instance, /dev/disk/by-uuid/<UUID> is
not available, scylla_raid_setup will fail while mounting volume.
To avoid failing to mount /dev/disk/by-uuid/<UUID>, fetch all available
paths to mount the disk and fallback to other paths like by-partuuid,
by-id, by-path or just using real device path like /dev/md0.
To get device path, and also to dumping device status when UUID is not
available, this will introduce UdevInfo class which communicate udev
using pyudev.
b0fa59b260 build: add tools for optimizing the Wasm binaries and translating to wat
After the addition of the rust-std-static-wasm32-wasi target, we're
able to compile the Rust programs to Wasm binaries. However, we're still
only able to handle the Wasm UDFs in the Text format, so we need a tool
to translate the .wasm files to .wat. Additionally, the .wasm files
generated by default are unnecessarily large, which can be helped
using wasm-opt and wasm-strip.
The tool for translating wasm to wat (wasm2wat), and the tool for
stripping the wasm binaries (wasm-strip) are included in the `wabt`
package, and the optimization tool (wasm-opt) is included in the
`binaryen` package. Both packages are added to install-dependencies.sh
