e3e81a9a7a repair: throw if flush failed in get_flush_time
Currently, _flush_time was stored as a std::optional<gc_clock::time_point>
and std::nullopt indicates that the flush was needed but failed. It's confusing
for the caller and does not work as expected since the _flush_time is initialized
with value (not optional).

Change _flush_time type to gc_clock::time_point. If a flush is needed but failed,
get_flush_time() throws an exception.

This was suppose to be a part of https://github.com/scylladb/scylladb/pull/26319
but it was mistakenly overwritten during rebases.

d436233209 repair: fail tablet repair if any batch wasn't sent successfully
If any batch replay failed, we cannot update repair_time as we risk the
data resurrection.

If replay of any batch needs to be retried, run the whole repair but
fail at the very end, so that the repair_time for it won't be updated.

0d7e518a26 repair: Add tablet incremental repair support
The central idea of incremental repair is to allow repair participants
to select and repair only a portion of the dataset to speed up the
repair process. All repair participants must utilize an identical
selection method to repair and synchronize the same selected dataset.
There are two primary selection methods: time-based and file-based. The
time-based method selects data within a specified time frame. It is
versatile but it is less efficient because it requires reading all of
the dataset and omitting data beyond the time frame. The file-based
method selects data from unrepaired SSTables and is more efficient
because it allows the entire SSTable to be omitted. This document patch
implements the file-based selection method.

Incremental repair will only be supported for tablet tables; it will not
be supported for vnode tables. On one hand, the legacy vnode is less
important to support. On the other hand, the incremental repair for
vnode is much harder to implement. With vnodes, a SSTalbe could contain
data for multiple vnode ranges. When a given vnode range is repaired,
only a portion of the SSTable is repaired. This complicates the
manipulation of SSTables significantly during both repair and
compaction. With tablets, an entire tablet is repaired so that a
sstable is either fully repaired or not repaired which is a huge
simplification.

This patch uses the repaired_at from sstables::statistics component to
mark a sstable as repaired. It uses a virtual clock as the repair
timestamp, i.e., using a monotonically increasing number for the
repaired_at field of a SSTable and sstables_repaired_at column in
system.tablets table. Notice that when a sstable is not repaired, the
repaired_at field will be set to the default value 0 by default. The
being_repaired in memory field of a SSTable is used to explicitly mark
that a SSTable is being selected. The following variables are used for
incremental repair:

The repaired_at on disk field of a SSTable is used.
   - A 64-bit number increases sequentially

The sstables_repaired_at is added to the system.tablets table.
   - repaired_at <= sstables_repaired_at means the sstable is repaired

The being_repaired in memory field of a SSTable is added.
   - A repair UUID tells which sstable has participated in the repair

a7ee2bbbd8 tasks: do not use binary progress for task manager tasks
Currently, progress of a parent task depends on expected_total_workload,
expected_children_number, and children progresses. Basically, if total
workload is known or all children have already been created, progresses
of children are summed up. Otherwise binary progress is returned.

As a result, two tasks of the same type may return progress in different
units. If they are children of the same task and this parent gathers the
progress - it becomes meaningless.

Drop expected_children_number as we can't assume that children are able
to show their progresses.

Modify get_progress method - progress is calculated based on children
progresses. If expected_total_workload isn't specified, the total
progress of a task may grow. If expected_total_workload isn't specified
and no children are created, empty progress (0/0) is returned.

4a847df55c locator: service: add rebuild_repair tablet transition stage
Currently, in the streaming stage of rebuild tablet transition,
we stream tablet data from all replicas.
This patch series splits the streaming stage into two phases:
- repair phase, where we repair the tablet;
- streaming phase, where we stream tablet data from one replica.

rebuild_repair is a stage that will be used to perform the repair
phase. It executes the tablet repair on tablet_info::replicas.
A primary replica out of migration_streraming_info::read_from is
the repair master. If the repair succeeds, we move to streaming
tablet transition stage, and to cleanup_target - if it fails.

The repair bypasses the tablet repair scheduler and it does not update
the repair_time.

A transition to the rebuild_repair stage will be added in the following
patches.

c7f78edc78 Merge 'repair: Wire repair_time in system.tablets for tombstone gc' from Asias He
The repair_time in system.tablets will be updated when repair runs
successfully. We can now use it to update the repair time for tombstone
gc, i.e, when the system.tablets.repair_time is propagated, call
gc_state.update_repair_time() on the node that is the owner of the
tablet.

Since b3b3e880d3 ("repair: Reduce hints and batchlog flush"), the
repair time that could be used for tombstone gc might be smaller than
when the repair is started, so the actual repair time for tombstone gc
is returned by the repair rpc call from the repair master node.

ccb433d767 Merge 'tasks: add api_task_ttl for tasks started with API' from Aleksandra Martyniuk
When users start an operation asynchronously with API, they are expected to check the operation's status. Hence, the status should be kept in task manager for reasonable time after the operation is done. The operations that are started internally usually don't need to stay in task manager for that long.

Add api_task_ttl that will be used for tasks started with API. By default it's 1 hour. The time for which non-API tasks stay in task manager isn't changed.

9ace191616 repair: Enable small table optimization for RBNO bootstrap and decommission
The non local strategy system keyspaces usually contain very litte data.
All the tables within them have to be repaired for all the token ranges,
which could be large in clusters with a large number of nodes. In multiple
DC setup, the repair in RBNO is dominated by the network latency. As a
result, it takes a long time to repair those tables even if they are
almost empty.

To speed up the RBNO bootstrap, especially for starting empty clusters,
this patch enables small table optimization for RBNO for system tables.
We could enable it for small user tables as a follow up.

Tests:

1) A 5ms latency is added to simulate cross dc network delay, 256 tokens
per node, 10 nodes:

- Before

  topology_custom dev topology_custom.test_boot_time.1 1287.06s

- After

  topology_custom dev topology_custom.test_boot_time.1 12.48s

The test shows 100X boot time improvement

2) A SCT test to bootstrap 3 DCs, 3 nodes in each DC.

- Before

  Time to bootstrap = 1h23m

- After

  Time to bootstrap = 13m

The test shows 6X bootstrap time improvement

5ccbd500e0 Merge 'repair: fix task_manager_module::abort_all_repairs' from Aleksandra Martyniuk
Currently, task_manager_module::abort_all_repairs marks top-level repairs as aborted (but does not abort them) and aborts all existing shard tasks.

A running repair checks whether its id isn't contained in _aborted_pending_repairs and then proceeds to create shard tasks. If abort_all_repairs is executed after _aborted_pending_repairs is checked but before shard tasks are created, then those new tasks won't be aborted. The issue is the most severe for tablet_repair_task_impl that checks the _aborted_pending_repairs content from different shards, that do not see the top-level task. Hence the repair isn't stopped but it creates shard repair tasks on all shards but the one that initialized repair.

Abort top-level tasks in abort_all_repairs. Fix the shard on which the task abort is checked.

b3b3e880d3 repair: Reduce hints and batchlog flush
The hints and batchlog flush requests are issued to all nodes for each
repair request when tombstone_gc repair mode is used.

The amount of such flush requests is high when all nodes in the cluster
run repair. It is observed it takes a long time, up to 15s, for a repair
request to finish such a flush request.

To reduce overhead of the flush, each node caches the flush and only
executes the real flush when the cahce time has passed. It is safe to do
so because the real flush_time is returned. Repair uses the smallest
flush_time returned from peers as the repair time.

The nice thing about the cache on the receiver side is that all senders
can hit the cache. It is better than cache on the sender side.

A slightly smaller flush_time compared to the real flush time will be
used with the benefits of significantly dropped hints and batchlog
flush. The trade-off looks reasonable.

Tests: 2 nodes, with 1s batchlog delay:

   Repair nr_repairs=20 cache_time_in_ms=0 total_repair_duration=40.04245328903198

fd774862be repair: Make row_level repair work with tablet
Since a given tablet belongs to a single shard on both repair master and repair
followers, row level repair code needs to be changed to work on a single
shard for a given tablet. In order to tell the repair followers which
shard to work on, a dst_cpu_id value is passed over rpc from the repair
master.

c605220bb3 repair: Introduce small table optimization
*) Problem:

We have seen in the field it takes longer than expected to repair system tables
like system_auth which has a tiny amount of data but is replicated to all nodes
in the cluster. The cluster has multiple DCs. Each DC has multiple nodes. The
main reason for the slowness is that even if the amount of data is small,
repair has to walk though all the token ranges, that is num_tokens *
number_of_nodes_in_the_cluster. The overhead of the repair protocol for each
token range dominates due to the small amount of data per token range. Another
reason is the high network latency between DCs makes the RPC calls used to
repair consume more time.

*) Solution:

To solve this problem, a small table optimization for repair is introduced in
this patch. A new repair option is added to turn on this optimization.

- No token range to repair is needed by the user. It will repair all token
ranges automatically.

- Users only need to send the repair rest api to one of the nodes in the
cluster. It can be any of the nodes in the cluster.

- It does not require the RF to be configured to replicate to all nodes in the
cluster. This means it can work with any tables as long as the amount of data
is low, e.g., less than 100MiB per node.

*) Performance:

1)
3 DCs, each DC has 2 nodes, 6 nodes in the cluster. RF = {dc1: 2, dc2: 2, dc3: 2}

f42be12f43 repair: release resources of shard_repair_task_impl
Before integration with task manager the state of one shard repair
was kept in repair_info. repair_info object was destroyed immediately
after shard repair was finished.

In an integration process repair_info's fields were moved to
shard_repair_task_impl as the two served the similar purposes.
Though, shard_repair_task_impl isn't immediately destoyed, but is
kept in task manager for task_ttl seconds after it's complete.
Thus, some of repair_info's fields have their lifetime prolonged,
which makes the repair state change delayed.

Release shard_repair_task_impl resources immediately after shard
repair is finished.

d0d0ad7aa4 node_ops: extract classes related to node operations
Node operations will be integrated with task manager and so node_ops
directory needs to be created. To have an access to node ops related
classes from task manager and preserve consistent naming, move
the classes to node_ops/node_ops_data.cc.

9b3fd9407b repair: Add ranges_parallelism option
This patch adds the ranges_parallelism option to repair restful API.

Users can use this option to optionally specify the number of ranges
to repair in parallel per repair job to a smaller number than the Scylla
core calculated default max_repair_ranges_in_parallel.

Scylla manager can also use this option to provide more ranges (>N) in
a single repair job but only repairing N ranges_parallelism in parallel,
instead of providing N ranges in a repair job.

To make it safer, unlike the PR #4848, this patch does not allow user to
exceed the max_repair_ranges_in_parallel.
