It is possible that the permit handed in to register_inactive_read() is already aborted (currently only possible if permit timed out). If the permit also happens to have wait for memory, the current code will attempt to call promise<>::set_exception() on the permit's promise to abort its waiters. But if the permit was already aborted via timeout, this promise will already have an exception and this will trigger an assert. Add a separate case for checking if the permit is aborted already. If so, treat it as immediate eviction: close the reader and clean up. Fixes: scylladb/scylladb#22919 Bug is present in all live versions, backports are required. If you can use an existing folder, consider adding your test to it. New folders should be used for new large categories/subsystems, or when the test environment is significantly different from some existing suite, e.g. you plan to start scylladb with different configuration, and you intend to add many tests and would like them to reuse an existing Scylla cluster (clusters can be reused for tests within the same folder).
To add a new folder, create a new directory, and then
copy & edit its suite.ini.
