This change removes the logic to re-use old proposal timestamps since it is no longer correct. Two proposals with different timestamps can no longer be treated as equivalent. Signing a proposal that only differs by timestamp in the new algorithm can be thought of as roughly equivalent to signing a proposal that only differs by `BlockID` in the old scheme. I also investigated the codebase and checked for any place we updated a timestamp using the pattern `(Timestamp = |Timestamp: )` and saw no additional places where we are updating the timestamp of a proposal message. Remove most of the Async methods from the abci.Client interface. Remaining are FlushAsync, CommitTxAsync, and DeliverTxAsync. 2. Rename the synchronous methods to remove the "Sync" suffix. The rest of the change is updating the implementations, subsets, and mocks of the interface, along with the call sites that point to them. * Fix stringly-typed mock stubs. * Rename helper method. --- abci/client/client.go | 39 +- abci/client/grpc_client.go | 233 ++---------- abci/client/local_client.go | 154 +------- abci/client/mocks/client.go | 417 ++++----------------- abci/client/socket_client.go | 108 ++---- abci/client/socket_client_test.go | 9 +- abci/cmd/abci-cli/abci-cli.go | 12 +- abci/example/example_test.go | 2 +- abci/example/kvstore/kvstore_test.go | 12 +- abci/tests/server/client.go | 8 +- internal/consensus/replay.go | 4 +- internal/consensus/replay_test.go | 6 +- internal/mempool/mempool.go | 2 +- internal/proxy/app_conn.go | 78 ++-- internal/proxy/app_conn_test.go | 34 +- internal/proxy/mocks/app_conn_consensus.go | 16 +- internal/proxy/mocks/app_conn_mempool.go | 74 ++-- internal/proxy/mocks/app_conn_query.go | 12 +- internal/proxy/mocks/app_conn_snapshot.go | 16 +- internal/rpc/core/abci.go | 4 +- internal/rpc/core/mempool.go | 2 +- internal/state/execution.go | 12 +- internal/statesync/reactor.go | 4 +- internal/statesync/reactor_test.go | 10 +- internal/statesync/syncer.go | 6 +- internal/statesync/syncer_test.go | 54 +-- node/node.go | 4 +- 27 files changed, 367 insertions(+), 965 deletions(-) diff --git a/abci/client/client.go b/abci/client/client.go index d588922f6..bb6ee8361 100644 --- a/abci/client/client.go +++ b/abci/client/client.go @@ -33,35 +33,24 @@ type Client interface { // Asynchronous requests FlushAsync(context.Context) (*ReqRes, error) - Specifically, on line `388`, when we called `validatePrevote`, the `cs` State had already advanced to height 2, so querying that State for the votes of height 1 either yielded nil or an erroneous value. This change adds a `ensurePrevoteMatch` function that checks that the prevote occurred and checks that it is for the expected block at the same time. If this change looks reasonable I can just apply the same fix to all of the places where we perform `ensurePrevote` followed by `validatePrevote` to use this function instead. --- internal/consensus/common_test.go | 50 +++++++++++------- internal/consensus/state_test.go | 88 ++++++++++--------------------- 2 files changed, 59 insertions(+), 79 deletions(-) diff --git a/internal/consensus/common_test.go b/internal/consensus/common_test.go index 3a6541f9f..e21193434 100644 --- a/internal/consensus/common_test.go +++ b/internal/consensus/common_test.go @@ -361,24 +361,6 @@ func validatePrecommit( } } -func validatePrevoteAndPrecommit( - ctx context.Context, - t *testing.T, - cs *State, - thisRound, - lockRound int32, - privVal *validatorStub, - votedBlockHash, - lockedBlockHash []byte, -) { - // verify the prevote - validatePrevote(ctx, t, cs, thisRound, privVal, votedBlockHash) - // verify precommit - cs.mtx.Lock() - defer cs.mtx.Unlock() - validatePrecommit(ctx, t, cs, thisRound, lockRound, privVal, votedBlockHash, lockedBlockHash) -} - func subscribeToVoter(ctx context.Context, t *testing.T, cs *State, addr []byte) <-chan tmpubsub.Message { t.Helper() @@ -687,6 +669,38 @@ func ensurePrevote(t *testing.T, voteCh <-chan tmpubsub.Message, height int64, r ensureVote(t, voteCh, height, round, tmproto.PrevoteType) } +func ensurePrevoteMatch(t *testing.T, voteCh <-chan tmpubsub.Message, height int64, round int32, hash []byte) { + t.Helper() + ensureVoteMatch(t, voteCh, height, round, hash, tmproto.PrevoteType) +} + +func ensurePrecommitMatch(t *testing.T, voteCh <-chan tmpubsub.Message, height int64, round int32, hash []byte) { + t.Helper() + ensureVoteMatch(t, voteCh, height, round, hash, tmproto.PrecommitType) +} + +func ensureVoteMatch(t *testing.T, voteCh <-chan tmpubsub.Message, height int64, round int32, hash []byte, voteType tmproto.SignedMsgType) { + t.Helper() + select { + case <-time.After(ensureTimeout): + t.Fatal("Timeout expired while waiting for NewVote event") + case msg := <-voteCh: + voteEvent, ok := msg.Data().(types.EventDataVote) + require.True(t, ok, "expected a EventDataVote, got %T.
