Andrew Wood 11d727a88d In discard mode, if splice() is available, open a file descriptor to /dev/null and splice the input to that, to improve performance (#191). 2026-05-03 14:53:45 +01:00
Andrew Wood 21c8237a73 When splice() is available but neither the input nor the output are pipes, splice the input through an intermediary pipe (#188). 2026-05-03 01:12:33 +01:00
Andrew Wood 17cbab3045 Add an option "-J" / "--pipe-buffer-size" to set the size of the output pipe buffer when the output is a pipe, and when that option is not specified, automatically increase the output pipe buffer size to match that of the input, when the first input is also a pipe (#188). 2026-05-02 16:42:35 +01:00

Andrew Wood 8b4fa8ade7 Clear the terminal flag ECHOCTL before starting, and set it again at the end, similar to how TOSTOP is dealt with (#187). 2026-04-26 20:01:22 +01:00

Andrew Wood 9f63212a7c Add pv_asprintf() and change the way the terminal lock file is stored, so it is in a dynamically allocated buffer rather than using one of a fixed size. 2026-04-19 16:24:26 +01:00
Andrew Wood d638cd50f4 Remove pv_bound_long() and the blanket 100,000 hour cutoff - instead, clamp the ETA to just under 100,000 hours (to keep it from getting too wide), clamp the FINETA to a max of 7,000 years (to keep the date the same width), and make the timer show an overflow message when 1,000,000 days is reached. 2026-04-19 13:02:03 +01:00
Andrew Wood 7dc02a475e Make pv_error() and pv_perror() available outside of src/pv/, and use them throughout the program. 2026-04-18 22:23:28 +01:00
Andrew Wood b12681d667 Add a pv_perror() function to remove all the repeated strerror(errno) calls from pv_error() arguments, and standardise the error lines so the filename in question always comes first. 2026-04-18 21:07:08 +01:00
Andrew Wood fc364d381f Dynamically allocate the error message prefix, instead of copying it into a static buffer. 2026-04-18 20:30:39 +01:00
Andrew Wood 9427d210d8 Remove the "ratio" option flag, as it is not needed (#67). 2026-04-05 15:10:53 +01:00

Andrew Wood 8f19633dd7 In "-M both" mode, exchange information about the total amount transferred with the other side (#67). 2026-04-03 21:12:13 +01:00
Andrew Wood 7892e54d7e Rather than setting an option flag for ratio, add it to the default format string on the "out" side (#67). 2026-04-03 20:20:50 +01:00
Andrew Wood d7327aaf95 Replace pv_state_set_format() with pv_set_format_options(), which takes a structure rather than a long list of arguments, to make it easier to pass around - and rely on pv_state_name_set() being called first rather than doing it within this function, so it is only doing one job (#67). 2026-04-03 20:00:42 +01:00
Andrew Wood 80358e84f3 If no display options are passed and "-M both" is active, set a "ratio" option flag to display the in:out ratio as well (#67). 2026-04-02 23:08:49 +01:00
Andrew Wood 002780fbaf Ignore files autogenerated by "autoreconf" (#185). 2026-04-01 22:14:57 +01:00
Andrew Wood 1003bbb121 Remove src/include/config.h.in from the repository as it is generated by "autoreconf" and causes conflicts (#185). 2026-04-01 22:11:40 +01:00
Andrew Wood 8ef4ff2e84 If an empty format string is supplied, such as -F "", make that imply -q and cancel -c, so that -F "" -F "%b %t %r %p %e" -M both will monitor both sides but only display the output side - which will be useful when ratio is added (#67). 2026-03-30 21:41:16 +01:00
Andrew Wood 00f06f2b2c Pass the othermonitor_* values into the main state, and add TODO markers for next steps (#67). 2026-03-29 21:49:47 +01:00

Andrew Wood 6a20139f5c Add a macro to remove __attribute__(()) if not compiling with GCC. 2026-03-20 23:48:28 +00:00
Andrew Wood 04f99c4951 Use a special type for opts->argv[] so that the whole array, and array entries, can both be NULL, and the array entries pointers to constant strings; and ensure that argv[] always has a NULL pointer on the end - all so argv can be passed to execvp() (#67). 2026-03-19 22:57:41 +00:00

Andrew Wood 4606638567 Constrain the options so that -M cannot be used with -U (as it is a different action) and -M will report the right error message if mixed with -R or -Q (#67). 2026-03-14 17:20:30 +00:00
Andrew Wood 882428883a Remember both -N and -F values if two were given (#67). 2026-03-14 14:54:53 +00:00

Andrew Wood 22e9e00f63 Move the array of watchfd item information into the main state, instead of being local to the watchfd loop, so that in future we can add stoppage time to individual fd info and it will be accessible to the signal handler (#169). 2025-10-27 20:41:32 +00:00
Andrew Wood 60ca91209a Rename structure members for clarity - "tstp_time" becomes "when_tstp_arrived", and "toffset" becomes "total_stoppage_time". 2025-10-27 19:20:22 +00:00
Andrew Wood b1cac9b78d Record all old-style formatting options, and the full string for the extra display spec, in the control structure; make pv_remote_set only use internal pv state structures so it can be part of the internal pv library where it belongs, and not need to know about main()'s options array. 2025-10-26 12:53:51 +00:00
