Botond Dénes 22b14d593b multishard_combining_reader: use pause-resume API 
Refactor the multishard combining reader to make use of the new
pause-resume API to pause inactive shard readers.

Make the pause-resume API mandatory to implement, as by now all existing
clients have adapted it.
