cafa07d966 Don't use valloc; it's buggy on some GNU/Linux systems, and it returns 
storage that can't be freed on older BSD systems.

f94cf6216b (gnu_restore): Renamed to purge_directory(). 
Do not attempt to purge the directory if it is on a different
device and one_file_system_option is set.
